races can be held without UCI status. They do have to be insured via USA Cycling. The issue with the UCI getting invovled now with the series races in question, is that after 10 years the UCI only now feels the need to get involved. Just another way they can control what happens.
It is sad. The race director is a good guy as well as very accomplished cyclist. It(the relationship between USA Cycling and the UCI) is interesting.
I believe the UCI saw something successful and booming in the US Cyclocross scene and decided to lay down the law.........that hasn't been for several years.

Forgive my ignorance but how important is the UCI status? Is it possible to host events without it?
IE. triathlons that aren't USAT certified

The UCI rule of limiting the number of races in a series has been "in the rules" but has never been enforced......until now.
Sounds ridiculous. Did they take a note from the NFL, who all of a sudden can't tolerate violence?
Why the sudden decision to enforce the rule? Are they trying to uniformity across all series for legitimacy or something?
